Q. I need to buy a Gandalf figurine (like an action figure or statue or something along those lines), for my friend's birthday, because it is a huge inside joke between us. I have searched all over online, but her birthday is too close for me to ship it. I've searched in Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, KMart and Wizard's Chest. Please help me. How will opening and closing a credit card affect my score?
Q. My wife and I opened a credit card at Toys r Us to get an additional 15% off our order. Once it comes in, we plan on paying the entire bill and then calling to cancel the credit card. How will this affect our score versus leaving the card open and not using it?
A. As always initial credit applications decrease your score 5-10 points depending on the bureau. This is meant as a deterrent for application-happy people. It's honourable of you to just pay the card off and close it. The thing is once you have that credit line it will be used to calculate your credit score, closing the card will make that number fall because the line isn't available for calculation. It'll take longer for your score to recoup the 5-10 points than it did to lose them. A better idea is to just pay the balance and not use the card. Just tuck it away somewhere safe and because there's no annual fee (check for inactive fees) there's no cost to you. If need be, just use it sparingly to buy stuff for your kid(s) to keep the card active.
Have you heard about the recall of plastic bibs sold at Toys R Us?
Q. I was watching Larry King Live tonight & I was reading the scroll moving along the bottom of the screen. It said that plastic bibs, sold at Toys R Us, are being recalled because of the lead based paint used on them. Please watch your news for more info. I will post more info as I see/hear it on tv.
Well, China is making toys, bibs, etc. for Mattel & Fisher Price & lead based paint is being used. I am to understand that the US had no idea that the lead based paint was being used, & when they did, the first recall was made. Maybe we should be more concerned about selling safer toys, & clothing, etc. even if it means paying the workers more money & keep the jobs here in the USA. Just my opinion.

A. this is all crazy...i can't believe all these toys being recalled..i don't understand why this is happening..fisher price is a huge company and this shouldn't of happened...i think people should look into this a lot closer and see what is really happening before something big happenes to these kids who are playing w/ these toys...totally nuts!!!
How long would it take to walk from Central Park West to Times Square?
Q. One of my relatives lives pretty close to 15 Central Park West, and I might go down there for Thanksgiving.

A. No it's not very far. I would say 10 minutes walk or so. I actually walked from CP SW corner to Times Square in September. My problem was that I stopped several times for shopping. But if I had walked non-stop, well 10-15 min walk.
